Well-known Premier clients range from Giorgio Armani, Gucci and Calvin Klein to Fendi, Louis Vuitton and Alexander McQueen.

Premier was founded by Carole White, a former model, and her brother, Chris Owen, in the early 1980s. The agency has developed a reputation for discovering and nurturing new talent and helping to create household names.

I applied to 3 of those, Models1, Storm and Premier, and I have been rejected by them, and by many others.
And all of them, they look at you 5 seconds, or they do not look at you at all and say NO!
In Storm they told me I am too tall, and that Paris looks for so tall girls, and in Models 1 they told I am too pretty(what?) and Premier didn’t even look at me.I guess they are very “picky picky”.
I was very disappointed, because when everybody that you meet says to you “omg you look like a model, the height, the face, the body ,you should go and apply to agencies like “storm” and so on…” and when you get there they don’t see you like the general public does.

You set up an appointment to be seen or you do a walk in with your portfolio in hand, as well as an appearance which you will be automatically judged by, at first glance.

Fuck them. Just understand model requirements change from season to season.

Its hard to take rejection! But unfortunately it’s even harder when .dealing with such a personal matter like your looks.

It’s a cut throat business. Take all feedback and use it against them in

@Tanya… Go onto the Alba model information website, upload a photo of your son.
They send it out to legitimate agencies and if any of them like him they will contact you.
Ive just done that for my daughter and shes been called by 3 agencies!
Just remember .. NEVER EVER pay money up front and never go with an agency who expect you to fork out hundreds and hundreds of £’s for a portfolio.
      Good luck hun.

I am working as a model for ten year, but the problem for me is first I am black and second I live in Bosnia (ex Yugoslavia). It is so hard to find a agency for black models. I was in Milan, Istanbul, Vienna, Munchen…. but it is hard for someone to book you for a real job. They always say you are to pretty or sexy to be a model. Then what should a model look like ?????????????

I suggest you keep trying, go back to same agencies after a while, as a photographer I can’t tell you how many times agencies change their minds. Also try to contact photographers that work in the kind of area your suited to (not want to do, suited to) an experienced photog, can help you with all of it. Keep sending them images, good old fashioned mail is one way of not getting lost in the daily email crap, everyone now gets. Find the agencies details online.

        Thursday 27th December 2012, 1:52 pm
    • I. Lopes

Hi. Probably now it’s to late!!! It happened the same to me with Model Time. If they ask you to make a deposit to secure your place, it’s not an Agency to find work for you. It’s a photoshoot where they take loads of photos with different outfits and then tell you that you have a great chance of being successeful in modelling and say that you need to make a portfolio with the pictures they took, etc, etc, charge you thousands. You believe it, but then when you get a proper Agency, that looks for work and gets you to castings, etc, the Agency asks you to send casual pictures taken at home or on holidays, because they want to see what you look like naturally….that’s when we realise we’ve been scammed!!! A ‘ real ‘work Agency ask you to go for an appointment, talks to you and explain how the Agency work. Please, don’t feel afraid to ask over the phone , when contacted, if they are an Agency that finds work. Good luck!

      Monday 25th February 2013, 12:07 am Reply
    • I. Lopes

Yes!!! By my experience, Yes, you have. They aren’t Agencies that look for work, they just want you to buy the pictures they took. Work Agencies want casual pictures to see your natural look, not pictures with make up and hair done…etc. Model time are one of the kind…

Hi I’m a 19 year old 6″2 male from London. I’m an actor but have always recived comments about trying my luck at modelling, I haven’t got any pictures only my acting headshots and a few stills from some films I’ve shot however I do have a couple of friends who are photographers so gettin a few pictures sorted out shouldn’t be a problem. I’m looking to get into modelling as a way to earn some extra cash whilst I pursue a career in acting (as many actors have done before me) and also to make some contacts along the way. If I’m going to do so then I don’t want to much around with agencies that are going to muck me around asking me to pay all sort of fees towards shoots and deposits and what not. Cab anyone please point me in the right direction with regards to who I should be applying to and how I should go about this? Any feedback or help at all is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Frank x

We agree! Be very careful. No one should ask you for money for these kind of things. We sometimes run free shots through a sponsor but that is more the company to train assistant photographers and there in no up sell or money changing hands. Just a fun day with soem photos at the end of it. Once you get a godo agent they might suggest some new shots but anyone who says ‘We will sign you but it will cost this much is a scammer, so please stay away.’

      hello emily

i just want to make you aware top agencies charge models for portfolios too ,…so it doesnt mean they are all a SCAM ….models have to pay for their marketing materials ..either they get deducted from their jobs or pay upfront….they even have to pay for stamps and photocopies that the agencies make …

i know the business in that respect as i know models …

hi, i am from cardiff 23 and just over 6ft. i have walked into pretty much every top agency in london in the last 2 weeks, select, premier, elite, fm, storm, next, storm, and they have all said no.
    they would say…
”its a no for today” or
”you got a great look but its not for us” or
    ”your to commercial” or
    ”your not based in london”
lol! i don’t quiet get it.
i then tried oxygen today and mark was really interested in my look i just want to know being as its a boutique agency, can they give you the work the get established into the industry properly and professionally. do they have big clients with credible work?
i don’t want to waste my time if you understand. i know in modelling you don’t become successful over night and it can take years to take off. but i’d like to know if they can set you in the right direction for a good career. i want to do commercial and editorial work

Hi my 17 yr old daughter Becky got phone calls today asking her to go to London saying she had been picked as a potential model one was from cube studios the other from London school of modelling both wanted £50 deposit cube said would need to pay £299 minimum for portfolio and LSM said they don’t make you buy portfolio but you need one, I’m a little concerned about this and if I allowed her to go to London it would cost us lots to get there from Manchester does anyone know if either of these are legit?

It is true any actor or model needs photos but ANY company or agency telling you that you must use there own photographer is to be very weary of indeed! Lots of people wanting to make money out of people’s dreams.

An credible agency would not take any money to join. They only take commission on work.

Look at our Video by Lydia on practices of credible agents.

    Beverley,

I’m a 19 year old guy and have done various photoshoots for photographer friends, which have come out pretty good! So I applied to a few agencies and such.

Like your daughter I got an email from ITV2′s “London school of modelling” saying I had been shortlisted and that they wanted me to come down for an assessment day.

Before I could contact them back I was called by someone from “Luxe models” claiming that they had shortlisted me for potential and that I stood out for commercial modelling, that they wanted me to come down for a free photoshoot, i’d have 5 shoots need to bring 7 changes of outfits, meet and greet industry professionals and get 6 months guidance and advice from them to break the industry.

Having this been the first bit of positive feedback, it ended up getting sweet talked with all the contacts and amazing things this photoshoot day was going to do for me and paid a £50 “refundable” deposit to book the studio.

With that ITV London school of modelling phoned me, claiming the same thing. I explained a guy from Luxe has just contacted me, where they warned me they were a scam, they have no contacts and such.

I then spent ages googling for reviews and general information about these two companies. Pretty much they tell you out right, the are NOT agencies. In reality what they do is contact wannabe models or generally (anyone) sweet talk them into coming down for the day have photo’s done and then pressure sell you into paying for a portfolio. The make there money on people who have no clue and pay thousands for these pictures.

It’s complete rubbish. I know for a fact to effectively edited PROPERLY a professional looking photo your looking at 20-30 minutes a pic. So I don’t see how they can do 5 Photoshoos and edit them all for you in 3 hours for you to by. I’ve heard that they ping them off to the likes of Japan who blur your skin and wack up the contrast so it looks edited.

I then got my mate to apply, to be fair to him he knows he is no model. He sent in a low quality picture. Behold he then got a call from Luxe models the next day saying his pic was amazing and they wanted him to come down.

I’ve been on the phone to Luxe all day today, finally got through to the manager of Kube studios and have a confirmation email my refund will be with me in 7 days.

Stick to agencies, my lesson learned. Research THOROUGHLY the company, especially these portfolio scammers.

Few weeks ago i applied for a modelling studio called “Kube”, the lady on the phone sounded very pleased with my looks and she was extremely nice about everything. However one thing that i wasnt aware of and was kept a secret, was the portfolio fee! they didnt even mention anything about the portfolio cost on the phone!. I asked several times if there is any sorts of payments involved but the lady only mentioned the £50 deposit not anything else. after 4 hours of journey and almost £100 for the train tickets i got there. everything was going well the lady who was reviewing my photos seemed really enthusiastic and made it sound like i was born to be a model, after the photos she started talking about all these portfolio fees and she wanted us to pay £1500 for a gold one! i was with my dad and my dad was ready to pay for it but it just looked it like she just wanted the money! i asked her if i could take a day to think about it and make a decision and she said no “you have to make a decision here and today”. Not all modelling studios are scams but be careful with your money and who you trust! At the end its their job to market their products to you and get money off you!

My agency told me that I am not right for the South African market and that I have a more European look.

Is 1.97m too tall for a guy?

Please AVOID ‘Wiz Models’ agency based in Canary Wharf/ South Quays in East Central London. They are Not a real agency and their website is also dodgy looking – my friend who is an IT expert has confirmed this to me – so make sure you do not go to any meetings with them Ever!

Good luck to you all and just make sure you stick to the well known model agencies (in London). That is always the safest option!
