The top 10 best DJ’s in the world increased their fan base with ingenious collaborations or hardcore marketing via social networking. The following artists have managed to create great demand along with some pretty big paydays.
Wealthy, talented and having the time of their lives – here they are, in no particular order:
1. Swedish House Mafia
Swedish House Mafia consists of superstar DJ’s Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingresso. All members hail from Sweden and promote their dance and trance tunes as a way of life. Noteworthy collaborations have been created amongst group members.
Booking fees are a closely guarded secret, but 2011 reports indicate member Steve Agnello is worth approximately $18 million United States dollars (USD).
2. Markus Schulz
Hailing from Germany, Schulz specialises in trance music. Three self-released albums received a warm fan reception while collaborations with Fat Boy Slim, Madonna and Depeche Mode have encouraged people to hit the dance floor.
After a seven year residency at The Works in Arizona, he currently resides in Miami, Florida. No information has been released on his net worth, but his appearance fee as of 2011 is $10,000 USD per gig.
3. DJ Tiesto
Tijs Michael Verwest, or DJ Tiesto, was born in the Netherlands. Since 1994 his trance, house, down tempo and drum ’n’ bass tunes have been in high demand around the world. Rumor has it that Tiesto received $250,000 Australian dollars (AUD), or $263,975 USD to play a two-gig set in Australia.
2011 reports indicate the DJ is worth approximately $75 million USD.
4. Armin Van Buuren
Another native of the Netherlands, van Buuren started as an aspiring lawyer. At the age of 19 he recorded the highly successful Blue Fear and has continued spinning trance music ever since. Booking fee information remains allusive, but 2011 estimates place his net worth at $60 million USD.
5. Dash Berlin
Created by Eelke Kalberg and Sebastian Molijn, both natives of the Netherlands, the front man of the project is DJ Jeffrey Sutorius. In addition to spinning popular trance tunes, the group has worked with well-known pop artists including Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson.
Figures are not available on their individual net worth or booking fees, but it is rumored that trance DJs like Dash Berlin command the highest appearance fees, earning more than $20,000 USD per gig.
6. Daft Punk
Frenchmen Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter are Daft Punk. The group has turned out popular house music since the late 80s and remain famous for elaborate stage shows during concerts.
In 2011, Bangalter and Homem-Christo’s net worth is estimated at $60 million USD each. In 2009, Daft Punk booking fees were rumored to be approximately $37,000 Great British pounds (GBP), or $59,294.87 USD.
7. DJ Avicii
Born Tim Bergling, Swedish DJ Avicii made a splash on the music world at 18 with a remix for Lazy Jones, a video game for the Commodore 64 system. During his first tour, Avicii spun house tunes in locales throughout North America and Western Europe.
Bren Events Center in California came under fire for attempting to spend an estimated $170,000 to host the DJ for an event. 2011 estimates place his net worth at approximately $19.668 million USD.
8. Paul Van Dyk
Born in East Germany, van Dyk specializes in electronic dance. As of 2011, reports indicate he is the only individual to be recognized as a top DJ since 1998. Music forums indicate he commands between $250,000 and $300,000 per appearance. 2011 estimates place his net worth at approximately $50 million USD.
9. David Guetta
Parisian David Guetta began spinning house tunes in local nightclubs at the age of 17. Previous collaborations include works with Kelly Rowland, Akon and Fergie. As of 2011, David Guetta is one of the most popular producers in the music industry. Estimates place his net worth at $35 million USD. Appearance fees are approximately $50,000 USD.
10. Kaskade
American born Kaskade was born Ryan Raddon. After perfecting his skills during college, he spent a short period of time as an artist and repertoire (A&R) assistant. Kaskade currently works as a resident DJ in Las Vegas and has negotiable personal appearance fees, according to online sources. 2011 estimates place his net worth at $3 million USD.

Pretty much all of the dj’s whose names keep coming up all have a tleast 7-10 years of hard grind behind them, except for Avicci and I’m not sure about Skrillex either that’s a degree plus plus honours and a masters, guess they deserve their positions and before we lay people get tangled in a debate if you are a dj upcoming you would know that the likelihood is that all these guys know one another its the ‘dj club’ its part of the ‘dj code’. But hey the wheels keep turning maybe in 2 years or 4 you or me might end up on the list. I see though that the musical style is house mostly, maybe Dubstep, Drum and Bass and hip hop should have its own rankings for now until we can hold down Defcon and Glastenberry festival type numbers like literally every month of the year like the house and trnace guys do. Ya @Thabo South Africa is becoming one of the house capitals of the world, I guess its just a matter of ttime before your Roger Goode’s and Dj Fresh SA of this world make it on the top 100.

Seriously?!?!?! Not to rain on your parade but these are most definitely not the best dj’s in the world. Where is Mix master mike, Qbert, kut calhoun, Funk Master Flex, Dj Swamp, Bad boy bill, Dj Jazzy Jeff, Bobby D? If you like trance then maybe that list is maybe more accurate in that particular genre but you said top dj’s in the world so it is important that some one corrects that.
All of this respect should go to the one who created the idea of dj’ing so hip hop and dance music can be born. DJ Kool Herc!!!! He might not have been the best of all time but he rocked jams back in the 70′s by extending the breakdown of the instrumental hype breakdowns of Funk and soul and disco songs. This eventually led to him having em’cees rhyme over the instrumental breakdowns.
Grandmaster Flash used to go to Kool Herc’s Jams and also being a certified electrician was able to wire up a cross fader to make breakbeat dj’ing that much better. He was able to Flash between breaks faster than anyone at that time. That is how he got the name dj Flash.
Africaa Bambataa – has a huge record collection of rock, soul, funk, disco, and he used all these types of music to make dance music.
Jam Master JAy- Mixed between breakdowns of various songs so quickly he took hip hop to a new level.
You see these dj’s used real records and turntables to make doper music and mixes that these new dj’s who use cd turntables. The producing of songs back then was done with 2 turntables and a mixer and some em’cees. These dj’s manipulated one part of a song with two of the same records long enough and fast enough for people to rhyme over it.
Other contributing dj’s were Africaa Bambataa, Grandmaster Dst, Jam Master Jay, Terminator X, Dj Magic Mike, Dj Roc Raida, Chicago House Originator Jack Master Farley Funk, Frankie Knuckles, and the list could go on and on!
